How to use these pages

A hundreds chart (or hundred square) lays out the numbers 1 to 100 in ten rows of ten. Moving one square right adds one; moving one square down adds ten. That simple grid makes patterns in our number system easy to see, which is why it is a favourite in early maths.

Print the number charts for reference, the blank and missing-number charts for practice (answer key on page 2), and the skip counting pages to colour the multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. The mystery pictures turn the chart into a colour-by-number puzzle: colour the numbers in the key to reveal a picture.

The skip counting and mystery picture pages can also be coloured online: tap a colour, then tap the squares. “Show hints” tints the squares that should be coloured.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a hundreds chart and a 120 chart?

A hundreds chart stops at 100. A 120 chart adds two more rows, from 101 to 120, so children can see that counting carries on in the same pattern past one hundred.

How do hundreds chart mystery pictures work?

The key lists numbers for each colour. A dash means every number in between, so 22–29 means 22, 23, 24 and so on up to 29. Colour every square in the key and a picture appears. The answer is on page 2 of the PDF.

What can children learn from a hundreds chart?

Counting on and back, adding and subtracting ten, place value (tens and ones), odd and even numbers, and the patterns made by skip counting.

Is there a 0–99 chart?

Yes. The 0–99 chart starts each row with a zero in the ones place, so every row has the same tens digit, which some teachers prefer for place value.

Is there a PDF to print?

Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
