The pīwakawaka, or New Zealand fantail, is a small native bird that spreads its tail like a fan as it darts after insects (Department of Conservation). Colour its white eyebrow and throat band, its warm buff chest and the white edges of its tail, then the baubles and stars. Tap a colour, then tap any shape to fill it, or print the A4 PDF and use pencils, crayons or felt pens.

Printing tips

  • Choose A4 in the print dialog in New Zealand and Australia, and print at 100% so nothing is cut off.
  • Red, crimson and scarlet pencils for the poppies and pōhutukawa; leave the anthers yellow or gold.
  • Card stock makes the wreaths and ornament sturdy enough to cut out and hang.
