For teachers and parents
- Addition and subtraction
- Practises addition facts within 10 and 20, checking an answer against a key, color names. Solve each sum in pencil first, then color the space the color of its answer. Counters or a number line are fine. Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. About 20–30 minutes.
- Times tables
- Practises times-table recall, multiplication facts 1 to 12, following a key. One times table per page, from 2 to 12. Children recall each fact, find the product in the key and color. Use it as a warm-up or early-finisher task; page 2 is the answer key. About 20–25 minutes.
- Sight words
- Practises reading dolch sight words, matching words, color names. Read the key together, then find and color every space with the same word. Each page uses one Dolch list, from pre-primer to third grade. About 15–20 minutes.
How to use these pages
Color by code pages turn practice into a picture. Each space has a sum, a subtraction, a times-table fact or a Dolch sight word instead of a plain number. Children work out the answer, find it in the key and color the space.
Addition and subtraction come within 10 (answers up to 10) and within 20 (answers from 11 to 20). There is a page for every times table from 2 to 12. The sight-word pages use only the Dolch lists, from pre-primer to third grade, and leave out color and number words so they can’t be confused with the key.
Every sum is generated from its answer, so it always matches the color in the key, and page 2 of each PDF is a colored answer key for quick marking.
Frequently asked questions
What is color by code?
A color by number where each space has a question instead of a number. The answer tells you the color.
Which sight words are used?
Only the Dolch lists (pre-primer, primer, first, second and third grade). Each page names its words in the description.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Page 2 of every PDF is the finished, colored picture.
Can children use counters or a number line?
Yes. These are practice pages, not tests: counters, fingers, a number line or a times-table chart are all fine.
Is there a PDF to print?
Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
