Handwriting Style Charts

Alphabet charts with start dots and stroke arrows in eight handwriting styles: print, pre-cursive, New Zealand and five Australian states, plus NZ-style letter worksheets. All 34 worksheets are free to print or download as print-ready PDFs (US Letter and A4).

How to use these pages

Handwriting is taught in different styles around the world. These charts show the same 26 capital and small letters in eight styles: simple print letters, pre-cursive letters with exit flicks, the New Zealand style and the styles used in five Australian states. Every letter has a green start dot, numbered arrows for each stroke and the order to make them.

The New Zealand, Australian and pre-cursive charts use Google’s free Playwrite fonts by TypeTogether, which are based on each country’s school handwriting. They are a guide to the shapes, not an official model: your school’s own scheme decides the details. The NZ letter worksheets give every letter its own page to trace, copy and write.

For joined handwriting in the US style, see the cursive worksheets; for first letters and numbers, the tracing worksheets; and for blank lines in any style, the handwriting paper.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the official state handwriting models?

No. Each chart is drawn in a free Playwrite font that follows the style taught in that place, and the page names the font. Check your school’s scheme for anything it teaches differently.

Which chart should I use?

Use the style your child’s school teaches. If you are not sure, print letters are the most common first style, and the pre-cursive chart suits schools that teach letters with exit flicks.

Are the charts free for classroom use?

Yes. Print as many copies as your class needs, as a Letter or A4 PDF, with no sign-up.

Is there a PDF to print?

Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
