How to use these pages

A paper placemat keeps children busy at the table while the grown-ups finish cooking: a picture to colour, something to write, a plate or tree to draw on and a couple of games of tic-tac-toe. The activity placemats swap the drawing for puzzles: a maze, a picture word search and a little I spy count, with the answers on page 2 of the PDF.

Every placemat is one landscape page that prints on US Letter or A4. Print one per child, put out crayons and a pencil, and the placemat doubles as a name card for the seat. Laminate a set, or slip each one into a plastic sleeve, and use dry-wipe pens to play again next year.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print a placemat?

Download the US Letter or A4 PDF and print it at 100% (actual size). It prints landscape on one sheet. For a bigger placemat, print the Letter PDF on 11 × 17 in (tabloid) or the A4 PDF on A3 with "fit to page".

Is there an answer key?

The activity placemats have one: page 2 of the PDF shows the maze route, the words in the word search and the I spy counts. On screen, press "Show solution". The colour-and-draw placemats have nothing to check.

What ages are they for?

The colour-and-draw placemats suit ages 3 to 8 (little ones can colour and play tic-tac-toe with a grown-up). The activity placemats suit ages 5 to 9: the word search goes across and down, with a picture beside every word.

Is there a PDF to print?

Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
