How to use these pages
Which chart? A routine chart (morning, bedtime or after school) lists the steps of one part of the day in pictures, so a child can follow it without being told each time. A chore chart lists jobs to help the family across the week. A reward or sticker chart counts up towards one goal. A potty chart celebrates every try, a behaviour chart celebrates kind and helpful things, and visual schedule cards show the order of the whole day.
What helps a chart work: keep it short, put it where your child can see it, and go through it together first. Routines help children know who does what, when and in what order, and they work better when children help plan them and get specific praise for following them (Raising Children Network). Reward charts work best for one clear behaviour at a time, for a short while (Raising Children Network), and charts should celebrate success rather than add penalties (HealthyChildren.org).
Make your own: the routine chart maker puts your child’s name at the top in big bubble letters, and lets you choose and reorder the tasks, the days and the colours. It runs in your browser: the name isn’t sent to us or saved.
Frequently asked questions
What is a routine chart for kids?
A chart that shows the steps of part of a child’s day, such as getting ready in the morning or going to bed, with a picture for each step and a box to tick or add a sticker. It helps children remember what comes next and do more for themselves.
What age are routine charts for?
Picture charts work from about 2 or 3, before children can read, up to about 10. Potty charts are for toddlers; chore and reward charts suit preschool and primary school children.
Are these charts free?
Yes. Every chart and the maker are free to print for home and classroom use, with no sign-up.
Is there a colour-in version?
Yes. Every chart has a colour version and a black and white colour-in version, each as a PDF for US Letter and A4 paper.
Can I add my child’s name?
Yes, with the routine chart maker. Type the name and it appears in big bubble letters. The name stays on your device.
Is there a PDF to print?
Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
