About Children's Day

Children's Day in India is celebrated on 14 November, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister, who was known for wearing a rose and for his fondness for children. Schools hold games, shows and treats, and teachers often put on the performances.

We draw roses, kites, balloons and cards rather than portraits. The card, the big rose and the balloons have large shapes for young children; the rose mandalas are calmer pages for older kids. Universal Children's Day, the UN day, is on 20 November.
