How to use these pages
An I Spy sheet is a busy picture full of small drawings. Children hunt for each kind of picture, count how many there are and write the number in the box beside it. It practises looking carefully, counting objects one by one and writing numerals, and it keeps a child happily busy at the table, in the car or in a waiting room.
There are three levels. Easy sheets have five big pictures to find, with counts from 1 to 6, for ages 3 to 6. Medium sheets have eight kinds of picture and up to 8 of each. Hard sheets have ten kinds and more than 60 small pictures, turned at different angles, for ages 7 and up. Every sheet is outline art, so the pictures can be coloured in as they are found: colour all the stars yellow, all the trees green, and the counting checks itself.
Every PDF has two pages: the sheet, and an answer key with every count filled in. On screen, press “Show solution” to see the counts, or colour the pictures online with the tap-to-colour tools.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play I Spy on paper?
Look at the first picture in the row at the bottom, find every copy of it in the big picture, and count them. Write the number in the box. Crossing out or colouring each one as you count stops you counting it twice. Then move on to the next picture.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, with the count written in each box and the total number of pictures on the sheet. On screen, press “Show solution”.
What age are these for?
Easy sheets suit ages 3 to 6 (five kinds, counts up to 6). Medium sheets suit ages 5 to 8. The hard Christmas sheet, with more than 60 small pictures, is a good challenge for ages 7 to 11 and for grown-ups who like a puzzle.
What paper size do I need?
Each sheet comes as a US Letter PDF and an A4 PDF with the same layout. Print at 100% (actual size). Plain paper is fine; slip it into a plastic sleeve and use a dry-wipe pen to use it again.
Is there a PDF to print?
Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
