How to use these pages
A rainbow has seven colours, always in the same order from the outside in: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Many children learn them with the name “Roy G. Biv”, one letter for each colour. Most of these pages have five to eight bands, so children can use the full set or their own favourites.
Rainbows appear when the sun shines through raindrops: each drop bends the light and splits it into its colours. That is why so many of these pages have a sun, clouds and raindrops as well as the rainbow. Point it out while colouring: the sun is always behind you when you see a rainbow.
The easiest pages (rainbow and clouds, rainbow cloud, happy rainbow, rainbow heart, umbrella and hot air balloon) have big, wide shapes for toddlers and preschoolers. The rainbow over the hills, the pot of gold and the mini rainbows sheet have more small pieces, and the rainbow mandala suits older children and adults.
Frequently asked questions
What order do the colours of the rainbow go in?
From the outside of the arch in: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The name “Roy G. Biv” helps to remember them. On a page with fewer bands, leave out indigo first, then violet.
Are these rainbow coloring pages free?
Yes. Every page is free to print or colour online at home or at school, with no sign-up. Please don’t resell them or put them on another website.
Can I colour the rainbows online?
Yes. Pick a colour and tap a band to fill it, on a phone, tablet or computer, then use “Download my coloring” to save the picture.
Is there a PDF to print?
Yes. Every page has free PDF downloads for US Letter and A4 paper, with the picture centered inside print-safe margins. Choose "Download PDF (Letter)" or "Download PDF (A4)" on the page and print at 100% (actual size).
