About Waitangi Day
Waitangi Day, on 6 February, is New Zealand's national day. It marks the day the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands in 1840; more than 500 rangatira signed during that year, at many places, and there are two texts, in te reo Māori and English (Waitangi Tribunal). In 2027 it falls on a Saturday, so the public holiday is Monday 8 February, in the first week or two of the school year.
How we made these pages: we draw native birds, plants and landscapes, not Māori designs, carvings or flags, and we use only single te reo Māori words with macrons, checked against a Māori dictionary. Spotted a mistake? Email support@colouringnest.com.
