Twenty pairs of numbers up to 100. About half share a tens digit, like 44 and 45, so children have to compare the tens first and then the ones, which is the place value idea behind comparing any two numbers. A few pairs mix one- and two-digit numbers, and some are equal. Answers on page 2.

Comparing numbers games
- Roll two dice (or draw two number cards each). Whoever has the bigger number says “greater than” and keeps the cards.
- Make the > and < symbol from two craft sticks and hold it between two piles of blocks.
- Say every answer out loud from left to right: “twelve is less than twenty-one”.
More number sense: the 0–20 number line, the 1–100 number chart and ten frames. Every sheet in this set is on the more than, less than worksheets page.
