12 pictures to look for around the house: book, pencil, clock, apple, teddy bear, mug, umbrella, boots, warm hat, light bulb, something with a heart, envelope. Tick each box when you find it. Every picture has its name underneath, so children who can’t read yet can play too, and they can colour the pictures in afterwards. Made for rainy days and sick days at home, when everyone needs a reason to get up and look around. The PDF has 2 pages: the picture hunt and a word list with a box to draw the best find.

How to play
- Print one sheet per child (or per team) at 100%.
- Agree on the hunting area first and, for a group, set a time limit.
- Tick each picture when you find it. Count your ticks at the end.
- Colour the pictures in, and draw the best find on page 2.
What it practises
Looking closely and noticing details, matching pictures (and words) to real things, and counting ticks. It’s also a good way to get everyone up and moving.
The PDF has 2 pages. For more games for a group, see the picture bingo sets, the I spy sheets and the memory games.
Questions about scavenger hunts
How do you do a scavenger hunt with little kids?
Give each child the picture sheet and a pencil, agree on the area (one room, the garden, one street) and let them tick each picture when they find it. For toddlers, use the 9-picture preschool hunts and walk around with them, pointing and naming things as you go.
What paper size is the PDF?
Every hunt has a US Letter PDF and an A4 PDF with the same pages. Print at 100% (actual size); the pictures are outlines, so they can be coloured in.
