Up to a month of "sleeps to my birthday", numbered 31 down to "Birthday tomorrow! 1 more sleep". Count the sleeps left, start the chain with that number and recycle the strips you don't need. It works for other big days too: the first day of school, a holiday or a visit from grandparents.

How to make the chain

  1. Print the 4 sheets at 100% (actual size) and colour the numbers and pictures.
  2. Cut out each strip along its outline. There are 31 strips, numbered 31 to 1.
  3. Curl strip 1 into a ring, picture outside, and glue or tape the tab. Thread strip 2 through it and close that one, and so on, so the highest number ends up at the bottom.
  4. Hang it up and tear off the bottom link every morning.

Printing tips

  • Print at 100% (actual size) so the strips are the same length.
  • Glue sticks and tape both work; tape is quicker for little hands.
  • Hang the chain where it can be reached for the daily tear-off.
