For the end of the school year in New Zealand and Australia, when the summer holidays start in December. Thirty numbered strips, "30 days to the holidays" down to "Last day! Holidays tomorrow", with suns, kites, fish and shells to colour. Count the school days left and start with that strip; recycle the rest.

How to make the chain

  1. Print the 4 sheets at 100% (actual size) and colour the numbers and pictures.
  2. Cut out each strip along its outline. There are 30 strips, numbered 30 to 1.
  3. Curl strip 1 into a ring, picture outside, and glue or tape the tab. Thread strip 2 through it and close that one, and so on, so the highest number ends up at the bottom.
  4. Hang it up and tear off the bottom link every school day.
Use on your class or library site
