An advent chain with a job on every link: tear one off each morning from 1 December and do the activity on it, from "Make a paper snowflake" to "Hang up your stocking" on Christmas Eve. The activities are free, quick and need nothing more than paper, pencils and a grown-up now and then.

How to make the chain

  1. Print the 3 sheets at 100% (actual size) and colour the numbers and pictures.
  2. Cut out each strip along its outline. There are 24 strips, numbered 24 to 1.
  3. Curl strip 1 into a ring, picture outside, and glue or tape the tab. Thread strip 2 through it and close that one, and so on, so the highest number ends up at the bottom.
  4. Hang it up and tear off the bottom link every morning.

Printing tips

  • Print at 100% (actual size) so the strips are the same length.
  • Glue sticks and tape both work; tape is quicker for little hands.
  • Hang the chain where it can be reached for the daily tear-off.
