How to use these pages
Free printable crosswords for kids and families, with clues written for each age: picture crosswords where children write the name of each picture, easy crosswords with a word bank for early readers, and a harder Christmas crossword for teens and adults with no word bank at all.
Every grid is a real interlocking crossword: the answers cross each other and share letters, every square belongs to a clued answer, and the numbers follow the usual order (left to right, top to bottom). Each grid was built by a program and then checked square by square, so every answer fits and every crossing agrees.
Each PDF has two pages, the puzzle and the answer key, in US Letter and A4. You can also solve any crossword right on the page: tap a square or a clue and type, then press “Check” to see what is right.
Frequently asked questions
How do you solve a crossword?
Read a clue, count the squares for its answer, and write one letter in each square. Across answers go left to right and down answers go top to bottom, starting in the square with the clue’s number. Letters you fill in for one answer help with the answers that cross it.
What is a word bank?
A box with every answer in it, in alphabetical order. Children find the word that matches the clue and the number of squares, then copy it into the grid. Cross out each word as you use it.
What age are these crosswords for?
The picture crosswords suit children from about four who know their letter sounds; the easy crosswords with a word bank suit about six to ten; the summer Christmas and New Year crosswords suit about seven to thirteen; the Christmas crossword challenge is for teens and adults.
Are the answers included?
Yes. Page 2 of every PDF is the answer key, the “Show solution” button fills in the sheet on screen, and the solve-online grid has a “Show answers” button.
