Nine blank clocks, each with a time above it in words and in figures, such as “five past five” and 5:05. Children draw the short hour hand and the long minute hand to show each time. Each number on the clock is five more minutes: count 5, 10, 15, 20 from the 12. Up to 30 the time is “past” the hour; after 30 it is “to” the next hour.

- Read the time and find the hour on the clock.
- Draw the long minute hand first, from the dot to the right minute mark.
- Then draw the short hour hand. After the o’clock level it sits part of the way towards the next number, not on the hour itself.

- 8:50 (ten to nine)
- 4:45 (quarter to five)

- Print the clock face on card stock and slip it into a plastic sleeve to use with a dry-erase marker again and again.
- Keep the make-your-own clock beside the worksheets so children can set each time before writing it.
