A paper clock to colour, cut out and put together. The face has the numbers 1 to 12, every minute mark and the minutes in fives round the outside, and the long minute hand and short hour hand are printed underneath to cut out. Join them with a paper fastener (a split pin or brad) and the hands really turn. The clock face prints 12 cm on A4 (4½ in on US Letter) across.

How to make the clock

  • Print on card, or glue the page onto thin card such as a cereal box, so the clock stays flat.
  • Colour the rim and the face, then cut along the dashed circle and round both hands.
  • With an adult, make a small hole in each dot using a sharp pencil pushed into a ball of modelling clay.
  • Push a paper fastener (split pin or brad) through the hour hand, then the minute hand, then the centre of the clock, and open its legs flat at the back. Not too tight, so the hands turn.

Use it with the o’clock worksheet: set each clock on the paper clock, then write the time.

Printing tips

  • Print at 100% (actual size); the PDFs are already set up for US Letter and A4.
  • Print the clock face on card stock and slip it into a plastic sleeve to use with a dry-erase marker again and again.
  • Keep the make-your-own clock beside the worksheets so children can set each time before writing it.
