Nine clocks showing o’clock times. Children read the hands, write the time in figures in the two boxes, such as 4:00, and in words on the line, such as “four o’clock”. At o’clock the long minute hand points straight up to 12 and the short hour hand points to the hour.

How to do this worksheet

  • Look at the short hand first: it tells the hour. If it is between two numbers, the hour is the smaller one (between 12 and 1 counts as 12).
  • Then look at the long hand to find the minutes.
  • Write the time in figures in the boxes, then in words on the line.
The nine times on this sheet
  • 4:00 (four o’clock)
  • 8:00 (eight o’clock)
  • 12:00 (twelve o’clock)
  • 11:00 (eleven o’clock)
  • 3:00 (three o’clock)
  • 1:00 (one o’clock)
  • 5:00 (five o’clock)
  • 10:00 (ten o’clock)
  • 2:00 (two o’clock)

At o’clock the long minute hand points straight up to 12 and the short hour hand points to the hour. The answer key is page 2 of the PDF.

Printing tips

  • Print at 100% (actual size); the PDFs are already set up for US Letter and A4.
  • Print the clock face on card stock and slip it into a plastic sleeve to use with a dry-erase marker again and again.
  • Keep the make-your-own clock beside the worksheets so children can set each time before writing it.
