A big picture frame for children to draw themselves in, with beads and stars round the edge to colour and a plaque underneath for the artist’s first name, age and the date. Draw a self-portrait at the start of the year and another at the end to see how both the child and the drawing have changed. Tap a colour and tap the frame to colour it online.

Ideas

  • Look in a mirror before drawing: what colour are your eyes and hair?
  • Colour the beads in a pattern, two colours turn about.
  • Cut out the frame and pin the portraits up together on the classroom wall.

Every shape is a closed outline, so the page works with crayons, pencils and markers, or online: tap a colour, then tap a part to fill it. For a measured record, use the I have grown pair.
