How to use these pages

A would you rather question gives two choices, and you have to pick one and say why. There are no wrong answers, which is what makes the game work for shy children and big groups alike: everyone has an opinion, and the fun is in hearing the reasons. It also gets children talking in full sentences, listening to each other and giving a reason for a choice, which is why teachers use it as a brain break or a morning-meeting starter.

Every set has 24 of our own questions in two forms. The pick-one sheets list eight questions a page as two boxes with "or" in between: children fill in the box they would pick, on paper or by tapping it in the colouring studio. The card pages have the same questions as eight cards a page to cut out, shuffle and read out one at a time at the table, in the car or in a circle.

The questions are kind and silly rather than gross or scary, with no brands or characters, so they suit a class party, a family dinner or a long drive. The family Christmas set has funnier, trickier choices for older children, teens and grown-ups.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play would you rather?

One person reads a question with two choices. Everyone picks one, by pointing, standing on one side of the room or filling in a box on the sheet, and then says why. Take turns reading the cards, and there are no wrong answers.

How do I use would you rather in the classroom?

Read one card as a brain break, a morning-meeting question or an exit ticket. For a moving version, point to two sides of the room and have children walk to their choice, then ask one child from each side to explain. Older children can write two sentences about their choice on the back of the sheet.

Are the questions OK for young children?

Yes. Every question is ours, kind and safe: no dares, nothing gross or scary, and no brands, films or characters. Younger children can play with a grown-up reading the cards aloud.

What paper size is the PDF?

Each set has a US Letter PDF and an A4 PDF with the same pages: three pick-one sheets and three pages of cards. Print at 100% (actual size); card stock makes the cards last.
