How to play

Read the theme first: every word belongs to it.
Say the letters out loud and look for pairs that often go together, such as TH, CH, ING or a double letter.
Read the clue. It tells you what the word means and how many letters it has.
Type the word in its box. A tick shows when it is right; when all five are right the puzzle is solved.

Questions

Where do the words come from?

From our own word list of everyday words, written for Colouring Nest and grouped into themes such as the garden, baking, birds or travel. Every word in the daily scramble is checked against that list, and no scramble spells another word in it.

Can a scramble have two answers?

We leave out words that share their letters with another word on our list (like LEMON and MELON), so each scramble has one answer from the list.

When do the puzzles change?

At midnight where you are. The page uses the date on your own device, so everyone gets the same puzzle on the same calendar day, wherever they live.

Do I need an account?

No. Your times, solved puzzles and streaks are kept in your browser on this device only. Nothing about your answers is sent to us. If you clear your browser data, they start again.

How does the streak work?

Solve a game on the day it comes out without pressing “Show answers” and your streak for that game goes up by one. Miss a day and it starts again. Past puzzles from the archive are there to enjoy but don’t change your streak.
