Accessibility statement
Colouring Nest wants every child, parent, teacher, carer and older adult to be able to find, print, colour and play on this site, on a phone, tablet, computer or a classroom screen. This statement says what we aim for, how we check it, what helps, and how to tell us about a problem.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We don’t claim full conformance: the site has thousands of pages built from templates, and we fix problems template by template as we find them.
How we test
- Before each release, a sample of page types (home, a colouring page, a worksheet, a guide, a game, a shop page and a Spanish page) is checked with the axe-core accessibility engine against its WCAG 2.2 AA rules, in a phone-sized and a desktop browser.
- Every new online game must work with a keyboard and with touch, and is played to the end in an automated browser before it goes live.
- Automated checks over every built page look for one main heading per page, a text alternative on every image, and links and downloads that work.
- Pages are checked at 390 pixels wide for text that runs off the screen.
What helps
- Keyboard and screen readers: every page starts with a “Skip to main content” link, uses headings in order and labels its menus and buttons. Pictures have a text description, and colouring pages describe what the picture shows.
- Colouring online: the accessible colouring modes add switch and keyboard control, high contrast, thick lines, bigger colour buttons and more. Settings stay on your device.
- Large print in games: every game has a “Larger print” button, and a “Big screen” mode with extra-large print, high contrast and bigger buttons for care homes and classrooms. Both are remembered for every game.
- Large print on paper: bold and easy colouring pages with thick outlines, large-print word searches and large-print sudoku, gathered for older adults on the seniors page.
- Print as you need: every printable has a US Letter and an A4 PDF; some colouring pages also have a low-ink version.
- Zoom: pages are built to reflow on narrow screens, so you can zoom in without scrolling sideways.
Known limits
- Colouring pictures and puzzle grids are drawings: a screen reader hears a description of the picture, not every shape in it.
- Ads are served by Google AdSense and may not meet every guideline; we keep them out of game areas and label each one “Advertisement”.
- Some PDFs are images of the art rather than tagged documents.
- The Spanish pages link to some pages that are only in English (contact, privacy and terms).
Report a problem
If something on the site is hard to use with your device, browser, screen reader or other assistive technology, please tell us: email support@colouringnest.com or use the contact form. Include the page address and what happened, and we’ll reply within 2 working days (New Zealand time) and fix what we can. If you need a page in a different format, such as a larger print PDF, ask and we’ll try to make it.
