A big house outline to draw everyone in the family inside, pets included, with a roof and chimney to colour. Underneath, children count the people in their family, write what they like to do together and finish “My family is special because”. Every family is different, so the page asks only who is in it, not who is who.

Talking about families

  • Families are all different sizes and shapes: some children live in two homes, with grandparents or carers, or with lots of brothers and sisters. All of them fit in the house.
  • Pets count too.
  • Younger children can draw only and tell an adult what to write on the lines.

Pair it with an all about me sheet for the first week back.

Use on your class or library site

Paste this into your school, class or library web page. It shows the picture and a link back here, so families can print it themselves. You can change the wording.
