The Sun is a star, the closest one to Earth, and the center of our solar system. This page shows its glowing rays, dark sunspots (cooler patches on its surface) and a prominence, a loop of hot gas arching off its edge. The Sun is so big that about 109 Earths would fit across it. Color it in yellows, oranges and reds. Never look straight at the real Sun.
