A dish of candy hearts in four kinds: plain, striped, spotty and with a little heart inside. Children count each kind, write the number in the table, then colour that many squares in its column of the bar graph and add up the total. Every kind has a different count from 2 to 8, so the tallest bar is easy to spot. It is a first graphing lesson for kindergarten, and a good one to do with real candy hearts sorted on the table.

  • Cross out each candy heart as you count it, so none is counted twice.
  • Colour from the bottom of each column up, one square for each heart.
