Twenty adding facts with totals from 11 to 20. About two thirds add two single digits and cross ten, such as 8 + 5, which is where making ten helps: 8 + 5 is 8 + 2 + 3. The rest add a teen number and some ones, such as 13 + 4. Each answer goes in a heart. It is the first grade standard for adding within 20, dressed up for February.

Tips for this Valentine worksheet
- Make ten first: for 8 + 5, take 2 from the 5 to make 10, then add the 3 left.
- Doubles help too: 7 + 8 is double 7 and one more.
- Use a 0–20 number line for the hardest ones.
