How to use these pages
Kindergarten maths is mostly number sense: counting objects one by one, knowing that the last number said is how many there are, seeing small amounts without counting (subitizing), and knowing how numbers split, such as 5 being 4 and 1 or 3 and 2. These sheets practise exactly that, in short pieces of about 10 to 15 minutes.
A good order is counting to 10, then ten frames, number bonds to 5 and then to 10, and only then adding and taking away within 10, because the bonds are the facts children need for both. Comparing numbers and the hundreds chart fit in at any time. Keep counters, buttons or blocks on the table: young children understand numbers best with things to move.
Ready for the next step? The first grade math worksheets move on to adding and taking away within 20. For older children the same skills continue on the homeschool printables page (grouped by age) and the worksheets for teachers page (grouped by skill). For reading, the phonics worksheets start with beginning sounds and CVC words.
Frequently asked questions
Are these kindergarten math worksheets free?
Yes. Every worksheet is free to print for home, home school and classroom use, with no sign-up. Each one has a PDF for US Letter and A4.
What math should a kindergartner know?
Most kindergarten programmes cover counting to 20 and beyond, writing numbers to 20, comparing two numbers, number bonds and adding and taking away within 10, and naming flat and solid shapes. Children learn at different rates, so use the sheets that fit your child rather than a checklist.
Do the worksheets have answer keys?
The number bonds, shapes, money, counting, comparing numbers, colour by code and missing-number sheets have an answer key on page 2 of the PDF, and “Show solution” shows it on screen.
