Eleven colour cards for toddlers: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, white and gray, each a big paint splat on the front. The back has the colour word and something that colour, like red like an apple or yellow like the sun. Print in colour, of course; the white card has an outline so it shows on the page. Name the colour, find something the same colour in the room, then turn over.

How to print and use these cards

The PDF has 4 pages: 2 sheets of 9 card fronts, each followed by its backs. Print double-sided and flip on the long edge, or glue each back page to its front before cutting. Then cut on the dashed lines.

Ways to play

  • Name the colour, then find a toy or a sock the same colour.
  • Sort crayons or blocks onto the matching cards.
  • Turn over and read “like an apple”: what else is red?

Printing tips

  • Print one sheet double-sided first to check how your printer lines up the backs.
  • Keep each set in an envelope or a zip bag, and write the set’s name on it.
  • Mix in two or three cards a child already knows, so every practice starts with a win.
