Once children know their numerals, the next step is reading and spelling the words: zero, one, two, up to twenty. These 21 cards show the number word on the front and the numeral on the back. The teen numbers are the tricky ones (eleven and twelve don’t follow the pattern, and fifteen isn’t “fiveteen”), so practise those as their own small pile. Pair the set with the 0 to 20 number cards for a matching game.

How to print and use these cards
The PDF has 6 pages: 3 sheets of 9 card fronts, each followed by its backs. Print double-sided and flip on the long edge, or glue each back page to its front before cutting. Then cut on the dashed lines.
Ways to play
- Match each word card to the numeral card from the 0 to 20 set.
- Practise the teen words on their own: thirteen to nineteen all end in “teen”, but eleven and twelve don’t.
- Read a word, then write the numeral and the word from memory before turning the card.

Printing tips
- Print one sheet double-sided first to check how your printer lines up the backs.
- Keep each set in an envelope or a zip bag, and write the set’s name on it.
- Mix in two or three cards a child already knows, so every practice starts with a win.
