The classic alphabet card: each front shows the capital and the small letter side by side, Aa to Zz, so children learn the pair together. The back has a picture and a word that starts with that letter, from an apple to a zebra. Use the set for daily letter practice, as an alphabet line pinned across a wall at child height, or as cards to sort by letters with tails, tall letters and short letters.

How to print and use these cards

The PDF has 6 pages: 3 sheets of 9 card fronts, each followed by its backs. Print double-sided and flip on the long edge, or glue each back page to its front before cutting. Then cut on the dashed lines.

Ways to play

  • Sort the cards into letters with a tail below the line (g, j, p, q, y), tall letters and short letters.
  • Pin the cards in a line at child height as a wall alphabet, picture side or letter side out.
  • Pick a card, say the letter and its sound, and think of another word that starts the same way.

  • Keep each set in an envelope or a zip bag, and write the set’s name on it.
  • Mix in two or three cards a child already knows, so every practice starts with a win.
