Every addition fact with a total up to 10: 66 cards, from 0 + 0 to 10 + 0, twelve to a sheet with the answer on the back. Knowing these facts by heart, without counting on fingers, makes all later adding and subtracting faster. Start with the doubles (2 + 2, 3 + 3), the plus-ones and the pairs that make 10 (7 + 3, 6 + 4); the rest follow from those. Print on card, cut and keep the facts a child is learning in a small pile.

How to print and use these cards

The PDF has 12 pages: 6 sheets of 12 card fronts, each followed by its backs. Print double-sided and flip on the long edge, or glue each back page to its front before cutting. Then cut on the dashed lines.

Ways to play

  • Sort out the pairs that make 10 and practise them as a group: they are the most useful facts of all.
  • Turn a card over: can the child think of a different fact with the same answer?
  • Use counters to show a fact, then say the fact the other way round (3 + 5 and 5 + 3).

Printing tips

  • Print one sheet double-sided first to check how your printer lines up the backs.
  • Keep each set in an envelope or a zip bag, and write the set’s name on it.
  • Mix in two or three cards a child already knows, so every practice starts with a win.
