Ten garlands of eight baubles, each with a number, and two or three baubles left blank. The first five garlands count on by ones, from small numbers up to the 90s, so most rows cross a ten somewhere in the middle. Then come two garlands counting in twos, two in fives and one in tens. The first two numbers of every row are always given, so children can work out the step before they fill the gaps.

  • Look at the first two numbers to find the step: 1 more, 2 more, 5 more or 10 more.
  • Say the numbers aloud along each garland, saying “hmm” at the gaps first.
