How to use these pages
Every map on this page is drawn from the US Census Bureau’s own state boundary file, which is public domain, so the shapes are true to life: Alaska and Hawaii sit in boxes in the bottom-left corner, as on most wall maps, with Alaska drawn smaller than its real size. The maps are landscape and print on one sheet of US Letter or A4.
For geography practice, start with the map with state names to learn where each state is, then use the blank map with state lines or the 50 states quiz to test yourself. The four regional maps break the 50 states into smaller groups of 9 to 16 states, which is easier for younger students. The states and capitals quiz and the map with capitals cover the capital cities.
Frequently asked questions
Is this blank US map free to print?
Yes. Every map is a free PDF for US Letter and A4 paper, with no sign-up. Print it at 100% (actual size) for the cleanest lines. Teachers can copy it for a whole class.
Which blank US map should I use for a quiz?
Use the blank US map quiz: every state has a number, page 2 is the answer sheet and page 3 is the answer key. For a fill-in map, print the blank map with state lines and write the names straight onto it.
How many states are on the map?
All 50 states. Washington, D.C. is shown too (it is not a state), and the small north-eastern states have their labels outside the map with a line to each one.
What are the four regions of the United States?
The US Census Bureau groups the states into four regions: the Northeast (9 states), the Midwest (12), the South (16, plus Washington, D.C.) and the West (13, including Alaska and Hawaii). The US regions map shows all four.
