A 6 inch ruler across the top of the page, marked in quarter inches, and seven things to measure: pencils, crayons, ribbons and straws. Each one starts at the same line as the ruler’s zero. Children lay the ruler (or cut it out) along each object and write its length to the nearest inch: if the end is past the half-inch mark, round up. Printed at 100% on US Letter paper, the ruler shows true inches, so a real ruler works too. Page 2 is the answer key.

Tips for this measurement worksheet
- Line up the zero on the ruler with the start of the object.
- Find the inch mark nearest to the end.
- Past the half-inch line? Round up to the next inch.
Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. Print at 100% (Actual size), not “Fit to page”: the inch rulers are true size on US Letter and the centimeter ruler on A4. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the line plot worksheet, which puts lengths like these on a graph. See all measurement worksheets.
