Eight rectangles in two steps. The first four are drawn with their squares showing: count the rows and the squares in each row, and see that 3 rows of 6 is the same as 3 × 6. The last four only have their side lengths written on, in centimeters, meters, inches or feet, so children multiply the length by the width and write the area in square units, such as square feet. This is the jump from counting squares to using multiplication. Page 2 is the answer key.
