The grade 3 step: seven objects to measure to the nearest half inch with the 6 inch ruler at the top of the page. The half-inch marks are the middle-length lines between the numbers, so an answer can be a whole number of inches or a half, such as 3 and a half. Write halves as a fraction. Printed at 100% on US Letter paper the ruler shows true inches; measuring with the ruler on the sheet works on A4 too. These lengths are the kind of data that goes on a line plot. Page 2 is the answer key.

Tips for this measurement worksheet
- The longest lines are inches, the middle lines are halves.
- Find the nearest inch or half inch to the end of the object.
- Write a half as 1 over 2 after the whole inches.
Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. Print at 100% (Actual size), not “Fit to page”: the inch rulers are true size on US Letter and the centimeter ruler on A4. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the line plot worksheet, which puts lengths like these on a graph. See all measurement worksheets.
