How to use these pages

Start with the simple penguin: one big penguin in a handful of shapes, with no background to colour around, so it suits toddlers and preschool with chunky crayons. The baby penguin, the waving penguin and the penguin with a fish are next. The family, iceberg, sledding and snowman pages have more pieces for children of about 4 to 8.

Penguins are black and white, so the colour goes on the beak, the feet, the cheeks and the scene: an orange or yellow beak, pink cheeks, a blue sea and a pale blue iceberg. Leave the white front white, or shade it lightly with a grey or blue pencil. Penguins live in the southern hemisphere, from Antarctica to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and South America; polar bears live in the Arctic, so the two never meet in the wild.

For more winter animals and characters, see the polar bear colouring pages, the snowman colouring pages and the winter colouring pages.

Frequently asked questions

Are these penguin coloring pages free?

Yes. Every page is free to print or colour online at home or at school, with no sign-up.

Is there a PDF?

Yes. Each page has a printable PDF in US Letter and A4, an ink-saver PDF with thinner lines, and a PNG. Choose “Fit to page” when you print.

Which penguin is easiest for a toddler?

The simple penguin: a few big shapes and no background. The baby penguin and the waving penguin are next.

Do penguins and polar bears live together?

No. Almost all penguins live in the southern hemisphere and polar bears live in the Arctic, at the other end of the world, so our pages never put them in the same picture.
