Ten 2D shapes in mixed order, each with a box beside it for its name, and a word bank at the top with every answer: circle, heart, hexagon, oval, pentagon, rectangle, rhombus, square, star and triangle. Children match each picture to a word and copy it, which practises reading and writing as well as shapes. Count the sides of the trickier ones to tell a pentagon (5) from a hexagon (6). Page 2 is the answer key.

Tips for this shapes worksheet

  • Read the word bank together first.
  • Cross a word off the bank when you use it: each word is used once.
  • Count the sides to tell the pentagon from the hexagon.

Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. For first shapes, the shape flash cards have the name and sides on the back. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the sides and corners worksheet and the 3D shapes coloring page. See all shapes worksheets.
