A fraction wall (also called fraction bars or a fraction strip chart): one whole at the top, then rows split into halves, thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths, eighths, tenths and twelfths, all exactly the same width. On page 1 the first part of each row is labelled and children write the rest; page 2 is the finished wall, which makes a handy chart to keep. Line a ruler up and down to find equivalent fractions.

Tips for this fraction worksheet

  • Lay a ruler down the wall: 1/2, 2/4, 3/6, 4/8, 5/10 and 6/12 all end at the same place.
  • Colour each row a different colour and cut the rows into strips.
  • Ask which is bigger, 1/5 or 1/6, and check on the wall.

Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. The fraction number lines show the same fractions as distances from 0 to 1. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the equivalent fractions and comparing fractions sheets. See all fraction worksheets.
