Six pictures of base ten blocks: tall rods that are ten units stuck together, and single units beside them. Children count the rods (the tens) and the units (the ones), write both in the boxes, then write the number they make: 4 rods and 7 units is 47. Each rod has its ten little squares drawn on, so children who are not sure can count them, and the rods and units can be coloured in online too.

Tips for this place value worksheet
- Count the rods first and say “ten, twenty, thirty…”, then count on the units one at a time.
- Build the same number with straws: bundle ten with a rubber band for each rod.
- Ask: which number has more tens? Which has more ones?
Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. The 0–99 number chart shows tens and ones in rows and columns. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the hundreds, tens and ones sheet. See all place value worksheets.
