Twenty subtraction facts starting from 11 to 20. Half of them cross back through ten, such as 13 − 5 or 16 − 8; the others stay in the teens, such as 17 − 4, or take away a whole ten. Go back to ten first: 13 − 5 is 13 − 3 − 2. No answer is below zero. Answers on page 2.

Tips for this worksheet

  • Read each fact aloud with its answer: “11 take away 9 leaves 2”.
  • Make a ten first: split the second number so the first one reaches 10.
  • Time the sheet once a week; the time drops as the facts become known by heart.

Every answer is a whole number from 0 to 20, and subtraction never goes below zero. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the hundreds chart and the compare number sentences worksheet.
