Eight pairs of fraction bars, each bar the same length with its fraction written underneath. Children look at which shaded part is longer and write the greater than, less than or equal sign in the circle. The pairs follow the third grade standard: the same denominator (3/5 and 4/5), the same numerator (3/4 and 3/5, where fewer, bigger parts win), and pairs that are equal, such as 1/2 and 4/8.

Tips for this fraction worksheet
- Compare the shaded lengths, not the number of parts.
- Say each answer aloud from left to right: “three quarters is greater than three fifths”.
- The open side of the sign faces the bigger fraction.
Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. The fraction number lines show the same fractions as distances from 0 to 1. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the adding fractions sheet. See all fraction worksheets.
