Sixteen subtractions of fractions with the same denominator, such as 7/9 − 4/9. Take away the top numbers and keep the bottom number: seven ninths take away four ninths leaves three ninths. Every problem starts with the bigger fraction, so no answer is below zero, and none takes away everything. Once this and the adding sheet feel easy, children are ready for unlike denominators.
