Eight pairs of fraction bars, one above the other and the same length. The top bar is shaded, such as 2/3; the bottom bar is split into more parts, such as sixths. Children shade the same length of the bottom bar, count the shaded parts and write the missing numerator: 2/3 = 4/6. Seeing it first makes the rule obvious later: multiply the top and bottom by the same number.
