How to use these pages

Multiplication starts as equal groups: 3 bags with 4 apples in each is 4 + 4 + 4, or 3 × 4. In second grade children meet arrays and repeated addition; in third grade they learn the facts up to 10 × 10 (many schools go on to 12 × 12) and use them in word problems; in fourth grade they multiply bigger numbers, 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by a single digit and then 2-digit by 2-digit.

These sheets follow that order. Start with the arrays and equal groups sheets, learn one table at a time with the times tables worksheets and flash cards, then use the mixed facts and the 3 minute drill here to check they stick. Keep a 1–12 multiplication chart on the table for the long multiplication sheets.

How does the 3 minute multiplication drill work?

There is no timer on the sheet. A grown-up times three minutes, the child answers as many of the 60 facts as they can, and then you count the right answers together and write the score at the top. Print a fresh copy next week and try to beat it: the facts change if you refresh the page.
