Six short stories to solve with one multiplication: boxes of muffins, rows of chairs, spiders’ legs, packs of stickers. Children read the story, find the number of groups and the number in each group, write the multiplication in the working box and the answer with its unit, such as 24 muffins. One story may use “times as many”, the fourth grade kind. Drawing a quick picture or array in the working box is a good way to start.
