Sixteen 2-digit by 1-digit multiplications in columns where the ones always need regrouping: in 47 × 6, 7 × 6 is 42, so write the 2 in the ones and carry the 4 tens. Then 4 tens × 6 is 24 tens, plus the 4 carried makes 28 tens, and the answer is 282. Children can write the carried digit small above the tens. Answers go up to three digits.
