Six pictures of circles with dots inside: every circle in a picture holds the same number of dots. Children count the groups, then the dots in one group, and write the sentence “3 groups of 4 = 12” and the multiplication 3 × 4 = 12. The dots are laid out like dice, so children start to see 4 or 6 at a glance instead of counting one by one. It is the first step from counting to multiplying.

Tips for this multiplication worksheet
- Count the circles first: that is the number of groups.
- Count the dots in one circle: every circle has the same number.
- Act it out with cups and buttons, then write the fact.
Page 2 of the PDF is the answer key. Counting in equal steps on the skip counting by 5s chart is good practice for the next step. When this sheet feels easy, move on to the multiplication facts 0 to 5 sheet. See all multiplication worksheets.
