Golf Solitaire: Free Online Card Game
Golf solitaire is a fast, easy-to-learn card game: clear all seven columns by playing their bottom cards onto the waste pile, one higher or one lower each time. Ours is free, plays in your browser with no download or sign-up, and has large, clear cards with a “Larger print” button. Most Golf deals cannot be cleared, so we only offer deals our solver program has cleared: every game here can be won. Undo and Hint are unlimited, and a game takes two or three minutes.

How to play
- Seven columns of five cards are dealt face up, with one card on the waste pile below.
- Play the bottom card of any column onto the waste when it is one higher or one lower than the waste card, whatever the suit: a 7 or a 9 on an 8.
- Aces and Kings don’t join up: you can’t put an Ace on a King or a King on an Ace.
- When nothing fits, tap the stock to turn its next card onto the waste. Clear all 35 cards from the columns to win; cards left in the stock are your score under par.
- Tap a column, or drag its bottom card to the waste. Columns whose bottom card fits are outlined.
- Keyboard: arrow keys move between the columns, the stock and the waste; Enter plays the bottom card of a column, or turns the stock; U undoes.
Who it’s for: Grown-ups and seniors; easy to learn in a minute. Sound is off unless you turn it on, there is no time limit, and “Pause” stops the clock.

Golf solitaire tips and strategy
- Look for the longest chain before you start: a run like 6, 7, 8, 7, 6, 5 clears five cards with one stock card.
- When you can play from two columns, choose the card whose column has more cards left, so no column ends up as a long pile at the end.
- Count your stock. Every time you turn a stock card you use one up, so make every play from the columns first.
- Aces are the awkward cards: only a 2 can follow an Ace, because Ace and King don’t join up here. Try to play an Ace at the end of a chain, not in the middle of one.
- Golf rewards luck as well as skill, but every deal here can be cleared. If you finish with cards left in the stock, that’s a better score.

Questions
Can every Golf game be won?
No: most Golf deals cannot be cleared. We only use deals our solver program has cleared (366 of them), so every game here can be won. Look ahead: play long chains up and down, and think before turning the stock.
Why is it called Golf?
Like golf, a low score is good: the score is the number of cards left in the columns, and a clear board with cards left in the stock is “under par”.
Is Golf solitaire good for seniors?
It was made with seniors in mind: big card numbers and suits, a “Larger print” button for even bigger cards, no time limit (the clock is only for your own record), unlimited undo, hints, a pause button and no pop-ups. Sound is off unless you turn it on.
Can I put a Queen on a King?
Yes: a Queen goes on a King and a King on a Queen, as they are one apart. Only Ace and King don’t join up.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up or download anything?
It is free and plays in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. There is nothing to download and no account. Your stats are kept in this browser only. A few adverts on the page, kept well away from the game, pay for the site.
Does it work on a tablet or phone?
Yes. Tap or drag with a finger on a tablet or phone, or use a mouse. It also plays with the keyboard alone (see “How to play”). Turn a phone sideways for more room.
